MEETING AND EXPERIENCING JESUS TOGETHER IN COMMUNITY

"Mankind's nature is perfected by participating in groups, not by acting as individuals."

- John Wesley

Do you desire to know and enjoy Jesus through His word and meeting together with others? His desire is to be present with us and to commune with us through His word and through prayer. We have the opportunity to experience this in discipling relationships provided by Small Groups.

TUESDAY GROUPS

JUDGES & DANIEL – 5:30 AM

Group Type: Mixed group

Lead By: Steve Dearwent

Material: Judges & Daniel by Timothy Keller

Description: Israel had strong leadership under Moses and Joshua during the exodus, and David and Solomon after the exodus. But in the intervening years, the Israelites lived in a spiritually pluralistic society. The society of Canaan was a mixture of both pagans and believers. Today, as then, individual believers work and live among a great variety of gods - not only those of other formal religions, but also the gods of wealth, celebrity, pleasure, ideology, and achievement. Christians reading Judges today must ask, “How can we be sure to follow God rather than the idols of our society and neighbors? How can we renew ourselves when we fail or fall?”

WEDNESDAY GROUPS - 6:00 PM

ABIDING IN CHRIST

Group Type: Couples group

Lead By: Chris & Laura Gossett

Description: Through worship, prayer, sharing, Scripture, and communion, this group seeks to experience the continual presence of Christ. As we abide in the joy of His presence, our intimacy with Him increases and overflows to bless the lives of others.

THE MEANING OF MARRIAGE

Group Type: Couples group

Lead By: Paul & Missy Lawler

Material: The Meaning of Marriage by Timothy Keller

Description: "There's no relationship between human beings that is greater or more important than marriage . . . And that is why, like knowing God himself, coming to know and love your spouse is difficult and painful - yet rewarding and wondrous" (Keller, The Meaning of Marriage Ch. 1). Drawing from Pastor Keller's sermons, he frankly discusses difficulties experienced by couples and shows how God's Word can provide a blueprint for a healthy, loving, and lifelong relationship.

SACRED MARRIAGE - CLOSED

Group Type: Couples group (this class is currently full)

Lead By: Kelli & Neil Morton

Material: Sacred Marriage by Timothy Keller

Description: What if God's primary intent for your marriage isn't to make you happy, but instead to make you holy? And what if your relationship isn't as much about you and your spouse as it is about you and God? Marriage is designed to help you know God better, trust Him more fully, and love Him more deeply. Everything about your marriage--everything--is filled with the capacity for discovering and revealing Christ's character in you.

SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES FOR THE CHRISTIAN LIFE

WHO IS THIS MAN?

Group Type: Mixed group

The real power of this book rests in the paradox of our faith; that to follow Jesus is not a pathway to an easy life, but a call to do hard things if we are to live in the image of our Lord.

THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE HOLY

Group Type: Men’s group

Lead By: Javier Cazcarro & Tim Boyd

Material: The Knowledge of the Holy by A. W. Tozer

Tozer's book, The Knowledge of the Holy, is a modern classic of Christian testimony and devotion. It addresses these and other vital questions, showing you how to rejuvenate your prayer life, meditate more reverently, understand God more deeply, and experience God's presence in your daily life.

GRACE: MORE THAN WE DESERVE, GREATER THAN WE IMAGINE

Group Type: Men’s group (meets at Permanent Housing for Firehouse Shelter in Centerpoint)

Lead By: Barry Dodd

Material: Grace: More Than We Deserve, Greater Than We Imagine by Max Lucado

Description: As believers in Christ, we claim to understand grace. We are taught that we are saved by grace. We know the Bible verses and the sinner's prayer, but have we really taken hold of it? Or rather, has it taken hold of us? Grace is not a nice idea, a song lyric, or a warm fuzzy feeling. It is the radical life of Christ lived in you. Grace gives you the freedom to love the unlovable and forgive the unforgivable, because you know how much you yourself are loved and forgiven. In Grace: More Than We Deserve, Greater Than We Imagine, we are called back to consider the abundant richness of God's offer. It is an offer to live a changed life; a call to genuine transformation and the courage to see it through.
