8:15 am Worship Arts Team
The worship of God is primary in the life of God’s people. In worship we bring praise and adoration to the Creator of all things. The singing of the great hymns of the church gives each of us the opportunity to raise our voices in a corporate utterance of praise and adoration. Worship at Christ Church includes all the elements traditionally used throughout history to bring praise and adoration to our Lord – the singing of hymns, choral music sung by choirs, the instrumental sounds of piano, organ and orchestral instruments, recitation of the church’s creeds, the reading of scripture, prayer, the proclamation of God’s word, and an opportunity to offer one’s self in personal sacrifice and dedication to Christ. All of these elements come together in praise and adoration of our God, our Lord Jesus Christ. Worship begins at 8:15 with a rousing prelude and choral call to worship. A warm and friendly congregation invites you to join us each Sunday morning in the Lord’s house to worship the Lord our God in Spirit and in Truth.
There are many opportunities to serve in the ministry of worship through the Music Ministry of Christ Church. We offer a place for anyone who has musical ability and wants to serve God with his or her musical talent.
The Chancel Choir at Christ Church is a group of dedicated men and women who present their musical talent to God through the singing of Choral music for worship. The choir sings for worship each Sunday and presents special musical offerings for the church year at Christmas, Easter and at other times. The choir rehearses each Wednesday evening from 7:00 – 8:30. We sing a wide variety of musical forms from classical in style through gospel. Our choir is a full S. A. T. B. group. There are presently 24 members in the choir. Enrollment is open to all who want to serve God through the ministry of Choral music.
The Orchestra at Christ Church serves in worship each Sunday to assist in the accompaniment to hymn singing as well as accompaniment to some of the choral pieces sung by the Chancel Choir. The Orchestra also plays ensemble pieces for worship occasionally. Presently the instrumentation represented is trumpets, trombones, horn, clarinet, flute, alto saxophone. Enrollment in this group is also open to all persons of High School age and above. The Orchestra meets each Wednesday evening in the Sanctuary from 6:15 – 7:00.
The Handbell Choir at Christ Church meets each Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 7:00. This group of musicians prepares music and plays for worship several times each year. The handbell choir also serves as an additional accompaniment to choral pieces occasionally as well as an enhancement to congregational singing.
Christ Church has a place for children to participate in music as well. We have two children’s choirs. Our youngest choir is for children K-2nd grade. The older children’s choir is for children in grades 3 – 6. These choirs are led by competent music educators who teach the children the basics of music as well as the importance of music in worship. These groups sing in worship several times during the year and will present at least one children’s musical during the year.
